Retirement Announcement: Ibrahim Balkir

A message shared on behalf of Roya Rouzbehani, Associate Dean Finance, Accounting Management and Economics

It is with mixed emotions that I share our dear colleague Dr. Ibrahim Balkir will be retiring at the end of August. Ibrahim started at Sheridan as a full-time assistant professor in the Fall of 2016. He taught at various other universities on a full-time basis but wanted to join Sheridan because it was an opportunity to teach at the college in Canada. Ibrahim taught a variety of accounting courses in our diploma, degree, and grad-certificate programs. In his teaching, Ibrahim has been a committed professor with continual efforts to look for means and techniques to facilitate understanding of accounting complexities and to develop teaching practice. He is well respected by his colleagues and students, and his friendly and approachable behavior was greatly appreciated.

From outside of Sheridan, Ibrahim brings his experience from being the Auditor General of Libya during the transitional period of 2011/2012. He also brings to the Accounting program his experience as a member of the board of directors in the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute in Libya for the years 2013/2014.

While at Sheridan, Ibrahim also published several peer-reviewed articles on topics such as the reality and outputs of the Libyan Supreme Audit Institutions and the likelihood of performance enhancement, and the accounting education in the Libyan universities and its compatibility with international normative requirements.

Ibrahim’s last day with Sheridan will be August 26th. Please join me in congratulating Ibrahim on his retirement and thanking him for his services to PSB.
