COVID-19 updates from OHS and HR

As Sheridan approaches the October 15 deadline for all employees and students on campus to be fully vaccinated (or have an approved accommodation), the Occupational Health and Safety Services team would like to take a moment to say a few words of gratitude and provide some updates.

First, we’d like to thank everyone for their adherence to Sheridan’s COVID protocols. Your continuing efforts in championing our community’s safety procedures has made a difference during our return to campus. Also, your willingness to get vaccinated and/or participate in rapid antigen testing, along with your adherence to on-campus rules, have contributed to Sheridan’s success in zero on-campus COVID-19 transmissions so far this term.

The Occupational Health and Safety Services team is also happy to report that the overwhelming majority of the Sheridan employees and students who are on campus are fully vaccinated. With this positive trend, we will be introducing a change in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) template.

Most notably, the new SOP template will place an emphasis on vaccination policy and compliance with various directives and requirements from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and relevant provincial legislation. Rest assured, other risk control measures that were introduced, such as access control, HVAC maintenance and operations, enhanced cleaning and disinfecting and robust contact-tracing, which was carried out in partnership with local public health units, will remain in place. We will communicate the new SOP once it’s ready in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please reference the current Sept. 21 version of SOP as required.

We would also like to take this opportunity to share the following reminders:

There are two main Sheridan sources for information about COVID-19 and return-to-campus information:

  1. Students and the entire Sheridan Community (including helpful information for employees too):
  1. Employees (Faculty and Staff) Intranet:

Vaccination Update

A reminder for faculty and staff who will be coming on to campus for the first time later in the Fall or for Winter semester in January 2022: If you are not fully vaccinated yet, please begin that process as soon as possible so your information may be uploaded to Synergy and you will have your vaccine compliance card in plenty of time. This will help avoid the risk of you being denied entry to campus and being placed on unpaid leave of absence for that portion of your work.

Synergy Vaccination Certification

The turnaround time for certification after an employee uploads and inputs their vaccination information is typically one to three days. Check your “My Vaccination Status” periodically in the interim for confirmation. “Vaccinated” status indicates the process is complete and verification certificate may be downloaded. Note: Synergy does not always send an email when information is missing, so check periodically and contact their online helpdesk for assistance:
