BBA students lead the way at the 2021 How to Change the World

During break week, three Pilon School of Business BBA students participated in the How to Change the World event

An experiential educational program, How to Change the World guides participants on a unique learning journey in which they work in interdisciplinary teams exploring real-world problems, practice design thinking and incorporate the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals into their team’s challenges.

The program brought together more than 150 individuals from around the world and included participants from 13 post-secondary institutions including Sheridan, McGill, Western, Concordia, Memorial and ICESI University in Colombia.

Congratulations to Wing Lam Ng (BBA Accounting), Tony Mach (BBA Marketing Management) and Chloe Vysohlid-Mones (BBA Marketing Management) who spent five intense days collaborating with colleagues, teaching staff mentors, local stakeholders and experts, which resulted in 33 unique solutions overall.

Four global sustainability challenges were presented to all of the participants, including Sheridan’s contingent, tackled challenges associated with the following UN Sustainable Development Goals:

  1. UN Goal #13 – Climate Action:  Montreal, Canada (Wing Lam)
  2. UN Goal #13 – Climate Action: Dori, Sahel Region, Burkina Faso (Tony Mach)
  3. UN Goal #11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Calgary, Canada (Chloe Vysohlid-Mones)

The invitation to participate this year was extended to Professor Carol Bureau from BBA and Marketing Management graduate Guru Missar, who participated in 2020. Missar was subsequently hired by the How to Change the World organization as a sustainability marketing associate. Carol jumped on the opportunity and worked with the BBA Coordinators to assemble a team from Sheridan.

Congratulations to Tony’s team for their win – Best Overall Solution for the Burkino Faso – Climate Action Challenge and Wing’s team for their win – Most Creative Solution for the Montreal – Climate Action Challenge.

Below are the Digital Portfolios that represent the incredible work Chloe, Tony and Wing accomplished during the program.
