PSB Accounting Students Triumph at CPA Ontario Accounting Challenge
By Margaret Bawtinheimer
From Feb. 24 to 28, 2021, CPA Ontario hosted the CPA Ontario Accounting Challenge, where accounting students across the province had the opportunity to demonstrate their analytical and business skills, and provide solutions to a real-life client problem.
Congratulations to the student finalists, team “Powerpuff Girls,” who won the first-place prize of $2,000. They include from Sheridan’s Pilon School of Business: Ravneet Kaur, BBA Accounting; Thi Minh Anh Tran, BBA Accounting; and Ravneet Kaur, Business Administration Accounting. Sukhmun Saggu from McMaster University was also on the team.
Groups were provided with a case study and given four days to review and to submit their key findings, calculations and recommendations. Ravneet Kaur shared that during this time, the teams were also preparing for their upcoming midterms. Of the 25 teams competing, only five were selected for the final round to present to the panel of CPA judges.
“It was an opportunity for my team and I to apply the professional knowledge that we learned at Sheridan,” said Kaur. “I am beyond words to express how grateful I am for my team who made this achievement possible and a big thanks to Sheridan, having helped me enhance my knowledge, professionalism and public speaking.”
The win is a momentous accomplishment for PSB’s Accounting programs, with over 100 students participating in the CPA Ontario Accounting Challenge, representing a variety of institutions across Ontario. As we look to the future, we are excited about additional opportunities for PSB students to apply their exceptional business acumen along with their powerful leadership and collaboration skills.
