Sheridan students take on Virtual Innovation Challenge

The Innovation Accelerator program completed a successful virtual term for the Fall 2020 semester. 

Four student teams presented original pitches to the Sheridan Student Union (SSU), the community collaborator for last semester’s project. Congratulations are in order for Team 3, led by Disha Yadav, for winning the Accelerator challenge.

The Innovation Accelerator, which is part of the Virtual Internship Program, is a 10-week, team project-based experience focused on developing innovative and entrepreneurial ways of thinking. Groups of students from a variety of disciplines are presented with a challenge by their community collaborator. Over the course of the challenge, the teams come up with creative solutions to the challenge presented.

The Innovation Accelerator experience guides students through the ideation and design process, culminating in a showcase and pitch to the community collaborator.

The challenge presented last term focused on student engagement and communication. The winning team pitched the creation of a “community tab” on the SSU website to serve as an online forum for Sheridan students.

“The Virtual Internship Program was created as an alternative way for Sheridan students to obtain valuable work-related experience,” cites program lead, Joe Musicco. 

Participants of the program develop skills including research, project management, human-centred design, creative problem solving and more.

Students in the Winter 2021 Innovation Accelerator challenge will be working with the Oakville Public Library.
