Student Club Enactus Sheridan Wins National Spirit Award
Enactus Sheridan – a student run club that offers a safe and inclusive environment for students to develop practical skills by creating and running Social Projects that tackle our community’s biggest social challenges—was the recipient of the National Spirit Award at the 2020 Enactus Canada National Exposition. The National Spirit award is presented to teams at the National Expositions who have demonstrated great impact in their community while working within the Enactus judging criterion. One team from each Opening Round League was recognized with this award.
The Enactus Canada National Exposition is an annual competition where teams from colleges and universities across Canada compete for a chance to represent the country at the World Exposition, taking place from September 8 to 11. This year’s national competition was held virtually in May, with teams submitting a 12-minute video presentation and a digital annual report. Submissions are distributed to a panel of judges who evaluate the team’s projects to determine who will advance into the semi-final and final rounds.
This year, Enactus Sheridan presented two of their projects: Non-Fiction and Project Sh@reway.
With the goal of connecting young emerging artists to mentors, Non-Fiction is a platform for emerging artists to showcase their creativity and gain representation in Mississauga without existing bureaucratic barriers to entry.
The team’s second venture, Project Sh@reway, is a social project with the goal of developing an app that would connect students to a student-by-student community rides-sharing service, while also creating a positive social and environmental impact by reducing the number of vehicles on the road.
As the Fall term arrives, Enactus Sheridan is fully operational through the “virtual sphere” and have many plans in store for the upcoming academic year. The team is looking forward to continuing the development of their projects over the next few months.
