5 Reasons You Should Attend the Business Conference
Are you having some reservations about attending the Business Conference? Maybe you already know what you want to do after you graduate and feel like it wouldn’t benefit you all that much. Or maybe you just feel like it won’t be worth your time.
Well don’t fret because the Business Conference has a little bit of everything for everyone. Whether you have a good idea of the direction you want to take your career or just want to take a few hours out of your day to get some career advice, the Conference is a safe space for students to learn from industry professionals who have been through exactly what you are going through. It is also a great opportunity to network with your peers and faculty attending the event.
Check out our five reasons for why you should attend the Business Conference:
1) You can get a LinkedIn Headshot
While we can’t all look as great as Obama in a selfie, it is important to stress how important it is to have a professional-looking headshot on LinkedIn. For many employers, this will be the first time they will see what you look like so you want to make sure you are dressed professionally and that the image reflects your personal branding.
Between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, students will have the opportunity to get their LinkedIn Headshot taken at the Conference. Remember to arrive early to capitalize on this opportunity!
2) Dr. Helen Papagiannis
If you have an interest in augmented reality (AR) or just want to learn more about what it is, you definitely won’t want to miss Dr. Helen Papagiannis. She has over 14 years of experience working with and researching the applications of AR. Papagiannis has also spoken about her work at numerous international conferences including TEDx and SXSW.
Dr. Papagiannis will be joining us on March 12 as the Keynote Speaker at the Business Conference. During her keynote address, she will be discussing how AR and technology are shaping the future of businesses.
3) There will be free food!
Yes, you read that right. There will be free food! During the networking session, we will be serving a wide range of appetizers for you to enjoy. There will also be a donut wall display featuring a variety of flavours from Glory Hole Doughnuts–perfect for all of your instagrammable needs.
4) You’ll have the opportunity to network with Alumni & Speakers
Our speakers come from a wide range of industries and companies, including The Weather Network, Dance District, Social Jibber Jabber, Lindt & Sprungli Canada Inc., RBC, DigiHype Media, and Corus Entertainment. Not to mention, a majority of them are Sheridan grads who have gone through similar experiences as you and used what they learned to create opportunities for themselves.
The networking reception is a great opportunity for you to connect with our speakers as well as to ask them questions personally. Make sure you stay until the end of the conference to capitalize on this opportunity and to enjoy some delicious appetizers.
5) There are lots of chances to win prizes and giveaways
Last but not least, there are plenty of opportunities to win prizes before, during, and after the conference. Prizes range from PSB prize packs, gift cards, and electronics.
So make sure you monitor your emails and our social media pages over the next few weeks to learn more about how you can win some prizes!
