Sheridan College Takes 1st Place, Ontario Colleges Accounting Case Competition 2019
On Saturday, March 30th, eight different colleges across Ontario gathered to compete in the Accounting Case Competition, with a total of thirteen teams competing. Sheridan College was one of those teams, including students Denys Krasheninnikov, Pamela Rillo Valim and Tanya Tappin, with coaches Alison Feierabend and Kiran Grewal.
“The opportunity to participate in the OCACC allowed me to challenge myself while applying the knowledge gained during my diploma course, and also network with acclaimed professionals in the market. It is exciting to see that our efforts were compensated.”Pamela Rillo Valim, Competitor
This year’s competition was organized by Sheridan College, and was held at the Hazel McCallion Campus, where over 40 students competed with an accounting case in front of a panel of CPA judges.
Students knowledge of what they’ve learned in class thus far was put to the test, where they had only 2 hours to prepare for an advanced accounting case in complete isolation. This competition, among many others, really helps develop critical thinking, teamwork and presentation skills.
“It was a great experience, it reassured me that I was on the right path and gave a much needed boost of confidence. ”Tanya Tappin, Competitor
Our Sheridan College team made it to the finalist round, and finished off in 1st place! We are so incredibly proud of our hard-working business students, for challenging themselves and pushing their limits. Pilon School of Business congratulates everyone that participated in the 4th annual Ontario Colleges Accounting Case Competition.
“I am so proud of Denys, Pamela and Tanya. They were very dedicated and put in the time and effort into learning how to analyze and present a case. They quickly figured out how to work together efficiently and effectively by using each of their skill sets and improved each time we met. It was an honour coaching them!”Kiran Grewal, Coach
