New Professors Welcomed to the Pilon School of Business
Wayland graduated from McGill University with a BCom in finance and marketing. He went on to Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Ontario bar in 1992. He continued his education with the University of London, where he received a Masters of Law in international business.
In his legal career, at a Bay street law firm and with CIBC, Wayland practised extensively in the area of Canadian income tax law with a focus on investment products, personal tax, deferred income plans, pension and benefits, executive compensation, and cross-border transactions.
Wayland’s academic career includes teaching here at Sheridan’s Pilon School of Business since 2010, and also with UofT’s Faculty of Law and at the Ted Roger’s School of Management at Ryerson University. John-Paul received a Bachelor of Arts from Laurentian University, a Masters of Education from Elmira College and a PhD from the University of Toronto.
His past teaching includes various HR diciplines such as organizational behavior, program evaluation, change management, and training and development. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Ottawa, focusing on social networking behaviors, social capital, human resource development, career development, and the transition to the labour force.
Dr. Hatala has provided consulting services to a number of organizations throughout North America and is the founder of the social capital development firm Flowork International.
Dr. Hana comes to the Pilon School of Business with a solid academic background built on a PhD in Human Resources Management, an MBA, and professional designations including CHRL, CPHRC, CT, PCA, and CLA.
His industry experience includes steering international development and human resources management assignments. He has held several leadership positions focusing on streamlining business results through using pragmatic HR functions.
Shady is currently chairing on the board of HRPA’s second largest chapter, leading several functions and committees. He is committed to giving back to the HR community.
Tim Pervin holds a LLM (University of Toronto Faculty of Law) which focus on the impact of globalization on laws, legal institutions and markets from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Professional designations include: Certified Management Consultant (CMC), Diploma in Governance and Financial Literacy from Rotman (ICD.D), and is a Mediator registered with the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Ontario.
He has taught courses as a guest lecturer at University of Toronto, York, Brock and Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario.
Tim is the Managing Partner of The Pervin Group Inc. and has consulted in business planning and reorganization, governance, strategy, and communications program for public, private and government. He is a Director on a number of Boards.
Annette Pepenella has over 15 years of experience in Human Resources working in the Telecommunications, Retail and Financial industries, and has just recently joined a major GTA healthcare provider. She holds a Master’s in Education. Annette’s volunteer work includes sitting on Sheridan’s Enactus business counsel, along with mentoring one of the Enactus student executives.
Lina Zacharopoulos has a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, and Masters of Education. She has now decided to pursue “The School of Life.” Lina has taught in FCAPS in the past and she brings 9 years of experience as a Disability Specialist-Learning Strategist. She will be teaching Human Relations in the Office Administration program at Davis.
Shelly-Ann Francis has a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Social Services and a Masters in Social Work. She has over 8 years of experience in counselling and social work. She is teaching Human Relation in the Office Administration program at Davis.
Robert Mulligan has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Education and an MBA. He has taught in FCAPS for the past 10 years and brings 29 years of experience in Portfolio Management and Finance. He will be teaching Macroeconomics.
Nicole Wagner has a bachelor of Mathematics, an MBA and a PhD in Business Administration – Information Systems. Her dissertation research topic concerns the usability of web interfaces for older workers. She brings experience in Project Management and Business Analysis. She has over 4 years of teaching experience and will be teaching Computer Applications in the International Business graduate certificate.
Khalil Rohani is an award winning educator with a PhD in Marketing from the University of Guelph, where he also completed his MBA. He comes to us directly from teaching in the Marketing program at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University. Khalil has published extensively on topics such as pricing, consumer behaviour and consumer perception. He will be teaching Marketing Report Writing and Marketing Analysis and Planning in the fall semester and completing the BBA orientation.
Kiran Grewal has a Masters of Accounting an 6 years of Accounting and compliance experience. She has her CPA, CA and CFE (Canadian Fraud Examiner) designation and comes to us with part-time teaching experience from Seneca, University of Guelph, York University and University of Waterloo.
Athena Mallioux has a Masters in Strategic Leadership and is currently completing her PhD in Accounting. She has her CPA, CMA and complements them with designations in credit, forensic accounting, fraud, and financial crimes investigations. She comes to us with 10 years of accounting and forensic accounting and fraud examination experience and with PT teaching experience in various Ontario Colleges including PSB.
Ibrahim Balitir has his PhD in Accounting from Concordia with 23 years combined accounting and teaching experience in Libya and UAE). He will be joining us in November.
Anish Bhandari has his MBA and 21 years of senior experience in the travel industry with experience in teaching and training.
Anita John has her Masters of Law and is currently completing a Masters in Tax Law. She has 12 years experience in the legal profession and 11 years of PT teaching experience at Humber and Ryerson. Anita will be teaching Accounting Law this semester.
Lior Yitzhaky has an MBA and his CPA, CMA designations. He has 24 years of management and senior executive experience with 11 years of PT teaching experience at Ryerson and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Lior will be teaching PT in the accounting program.
Katherine Sun has an MBA and 16 years experience in accounting taxation and Auditing, she will be teaching in the accounting program this semester.
Pauline Giovanetti has a Masters of Law and a Bachelors of Business Management. She has 13 years experience in risk analysis and legal research. Pauline is a PT instructor in the Paralegal Program at Sheridan and will be teaching Accounting Law.
Ken Edege has a Masters of Law and 25 years experience in claims adjusting, and legal analysis in Nigeria and Canada. He has previously been PT instructor in the Paralegal Program at Sheridan and will be teaching Accounting Law this semester.
Mamunur Rashid joins us as a full time professor of Finance. He has an extensive international education career having been a Professor at Khulna University, Bangladesh for 11 years, three years as a contract Professor at Curtin University in Perth Australia and most recently as a contract Professor at George Brown College here in Toronto for around two years. He has studied internationally in Bangladesh, Belgium and most recently at Curtin University in Perth Australia where he earned his PhD in Finance. He has also completed Ontario Postgraduate Certification on College Teachers’ Training Program from George Brown College, Toronto. His e-portfolio can be found at http://rashidmamunur.weebly.com/.
Alaa Guidara joins us a full time professor of Finance. He too has an international background. He completed a Ph.D and M.Sc. in Finance at Laval University in Quebec. He also holds the Canadian risk management (CRM) designation from the Global Risk Management Institute (New York, USA). His most recent work focuses on the world of micro-financing where he is developing platforms to enhance the funding of individuals business ventures in developing countries. He has also taught and developed a graduate micro finance NGO course while at Laval.
Andrea Wilson joins us a part time professor teaching leadership. She has an extensive career working for Ford Canada, Velcro Canada and Staples Canada and is currently working as a partner at Achieve which educates and partners with business leaders to create a culture of getting the important things done by utilizing their existing resources, in area of visioning, process excellence and sustainability. She holds an MBA from Schulich School of Business at York University.
