Tourism and Travel students take Sheridan Back in Time at their Days of Travel Past Event

Every March, as a part of the Introduction to Meetings & Events course, the graduating students of the Tourism and Travel program plan, organize and host a networking event as an opportunity to thank placement supervisors and mingle with some of the best in the industry.

This year, the students put together the “Days of Travel Past” event, which boasted vintage-themed décor, including vintage travel posters, luggage and globes, an international buffet of regions around-the-world, all made complete with cultural entertainment, including the steel pan and a classical Indian dance. Some of our many guests included Air Canada, Westjet, Collette Vacations, Towneplace Suites, Sunwing, CAA and Expedia Cruise Ship Centres.

CBX8DpwUkAARRCK.jpg largeNot only did the students put their event planning skills to work, but they also incorporated many aspects of program including our social media studies, which highlighted the evening with a live twitter feed. Having created a social media following for the event, guests were able to “Tweet” their pictures and comments of the evening using #TNTSheridan.

Putting this event together is just one of the many experiential activities that the Tourism & Travel program has to offer. From the Meetings and Events course to familiarization trips and field placement opportunities, this program is an excellent source for real, hands-on learning.
