Faculty of Business team take Silver award in Vanier BDC Case Challenge 2014 in Montreal
Sheridan Faculty of Business students Shannon Crisp, Humza Imran and Brian Farquharson took the Silver Award in the exciting second round of competition at this year’s Vanier BDC Case Challenge.
The Sheridan team were one of six finalists invited to the second and final round of the challenging case competition which included SAIT, Victoriaville College, College of the North Atlantic, Seneca, and St. Lawrence College. Each college was given the same Aspenware case study in isolation and asked to develop a marketing plan to address specific problems, then presented their solutions in a full-house public presentation judged by industry and academic leaders.
“These students are amazing – they practiced hard, they worked hard, and they made awesome presentations each time,” said Sheridan Professor Peggy Barnwell, Vanier BDC Sheridan team coach.
Third place at The Vanier BDC Case Challenge went to Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and first place went to St Lawrence College, Kingston.
“Sheridan first attended The Vanier BDC Case Challenge in 2008, won The Scotiabank award for third in division in 2009, and were finalists in 2010 and 2011. The 2012 team “just missed” according to judges, the 2013 team won Scotiabank Award for third in their division, and the 2014 team finished second, the best ever result for Sheridan at the event,” said David Nowell, retired Sheridan Faculty of Business professor and long-time OCMC and Vanier team coach.
This year marks the seventh year a Sheridan team has participated, the third time a Sheridan team has placed in the final round of The Vanier BDC Case Challenge and the first time that they have taken one of the top three awards. The Sheridan Faculty of Business offers congratulations to the students and coaches of the Sheridan Vanier BDC Case Challenge Team.
