Sheridan Advertising students host Jani Yates Institute of Communication Agencies

Jani Yates, President, Institute of Communication Agencies, recently spoke to Sheridan Faculty of Business Advertising program students about careers in advertising. Sheridan advertising students had a unique opportunity to engage with an industry leader and participate in a robust conversation about careers, tips and trends in advertising.

Jani has been with ICA for 12 years working in Membership Relations, CASSIES, program management and union negotiations as her primary responsibilities. Having worked in both languages in Montreal and Toronto, Yates brings 20 plus years of diverse advertising experience and extensive involvement in various aspects of the industry. Concurrent with her position at ICA she is an Executive Board Member of the Advertising Standards of Canada, Chair of the CASSIES Board, Advisory of the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS), Board of Governors for Actra Fraternal (AFBS), Marketing Education Trust Fund/Laurier(MCET) and past Chair and the Advertising Club of Toronto.

Jani has worked in a number of agencies including Bates, Wells Rich Green, Vickers & Benson, Ogilvy, Foster and Wunderman. The Institute of Communication Agencies is the not-for-profit association that represents Canada’s advertising and communications agencies. The ICA provides proactive leadership and counsel for its members who account for approximately 75% of Canadian advertising spending.

“The Advertising Speaker Series is designed to connect Sheridan Faculty of Business Advertising students with industry professionals and provide opportunities for networking,” said Cathryn Oliver, Advertising Program Coordinator.

Jani Yates is one of three speakers slated for The Advertising Speaker Series this fall semester, the next event will include Suzanne Raitt from Newpapers Canada on October 31st and speakers from Havas Communications on November 21st.
