Faculty of Business says goodbye to Bill Holmes and welcomes Sylvia Lowndes Fall 2013

Dr. William Holmes, formerly Dean of the Faculty of Business officially takes up his new duties as Sheridan’s Vice Provost starting this week.

“I’m really looking forward to the new role and working with my colleagues in this capacity,” said Holmes.

Holmes joined Sheridan in 2010 as Dean, Faculty of Business.  Bill has served as Adjunct Professor and Executive Director of the Undergraduate Program in the Faculty of Business Administration at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, and as the Instructional Manager (Dean) of Business for a network of colleges in the United Arab Emirates. Bill’s career has spanned the corporate and educational sector and has included assignments in Europe and Asia as well as the Middle East.

Sylvia Lowndes is appointed as Dean, Faculty of Business. Sylvia said that she is excited to join the Faculty of Business at this important time in Sheridan’s history and that her early focus will be on contextualizing the Faculty – meeting, listening, learning from and, understanding the wide ranging perspectives of faculty members, staff and students.

“My leadership style is one of building engagement and alignment. Together, we have many opportunities and challenges ahead of us including the launch and marketing of our new Degree programs, the internationalization of our Faculty as well as, the construction and growth of HMC2, among other important goals,” said Lowndes.

Sylvia holds an MBA in Finance from Dalhousie University, a BA in Urban Planning from McGill University, as well as several financial services designations, including Personal Financial Planner (PFP), Financial Planner (F.Pl.) through the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF), and the Canadian Securities Course (CSC). Sylvia has traveled extensively and is fluent in French and German in addition to English.
