Faculty of Business Accounting students compete in prestigious CGA Case Competition in Kingston
Sheridan Faculty of Business Accounting students from Davis and Trafalgar campus recently competed in the second annual CGA Ontario Case Competition hosted by St. Lawrence College, their School of Business and CGA Ontario. The prestigious event brought together 22 teams of top accounting students from 16 Ontario Colleges to participate this year in Kingston, Ontario. Students battled for nearly $10,000 in scholarships for the CGA program of professional studies. Challenges include case preparation, social games and a quiz bowl judged by Kingston-area CGAs.
Sheridan Faculty of Business entry this year featured two teams, one from each of the Davis and Trafalgar campuses. Sheridan faculty coaches Sally Mitzel and Alison Feierabend were very proud of the strong performance of their teams this year, with the winning team coming from the pool where the Trafalgar team competed.
“It was exciting to watch this talented group of students from Ontario colleges compete during these demanding challenges,” said event organizer Michelle Paquin, CGA. “The scholarships awarded to top students will help them do more with their careers as they pursue a CGA designation.”
The competition requires teams to apply business and accounting acumen with strong presentation skills. Students had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and to network with industry professionals.
The event was won by the team of students from George Brown College, Luke Mydlarz, Larry Lam and Kevin Luc were named top accounting students, second place champions John Carpenter and John Umunna from St. Lawrence College, and third place finishers Brian Sanchez and Stephanie Colquhoun from Fanshawe College. Next year George Brown College will host the CGA Ontario Case Competition.
