Sheridan Business students earn ScotiaBank Award at annual BDC Challenge in Montreal
Three Sheridan College Faculty of Business students recently travelled to Montreal to compete in the annual BDC Case Challenge hosted at Vanier College. Aashish Nathwani, Advertising, Stephanie Smith, Marketing Coop, and Jacci Vandergoot, Advertising program earned a ScotiaBank Award for their efforts.
This was the largest ever BDC Case Challenge event and colleges from coast to coast took part, including College of the North Atlantic in St. John’s Nfld, and Langara and Okanagan Colleges from BC. There were 26 colleges involved, with three sets of presentations running simultaneously on Saturday. Sheridan was one of two colleges to go forward from a group of nine. Teams of three students from each college have three hours to prepare a presentation on the case.
Team Sheridan reached the finals and earned a ScotiaBank award for their efforts. This marks the third year in a row Sheridan has won a ScotiaBank award. The six finalists presented a second case on Sunday, and Sheridan just missed a top 3 finish overall.
Judges were struck by the high quality of the final presentations they saw and noted that only a few points separated the top 5 teams. The final six included three Quebec CEGEPs and three Ontario colleges. All of the Quebec presentations were in French, while all the Ontario ones were in English.
Students have been preparing for this event since early January and had two very strong presentations.
