A 1983 Sheridan College Marketing program graduate, author and publisher, Tina Powell is the 2010 inductee into the Sheridan School of Business Hall of Fame.

Tina Powell is one of North America’s best selling children’s authors and is President & Owner, Big Fat Pen Publishing Inc. After graduating from Sheridan’s Marketing Program, Tina joined National Trust where she rose to Director of Advertising. She then turned her attention to writing and moved into the world of advertising copywriting, eventually starting her own business called Write Away. Tina ultimately embraced children’s literature after becoming the mother of two. Tina’s popular and award-winning picture books celebrate the special view children have of the world.

In 2004, Powell incorporated her own publishing company; Big Fat Pen Publishing Inc. and launched a new business model that focused on direct selling to her readers. She later expanded the business model to include selling in partnership with large corporations. Through Big Fat Pen’s corporate publishing program, Powell has sold more than 600,000 children’s books and has worked with companies which include Canada Bread, Mars Canada and Procter & Gamble. Many of Tina’s books raise funds for charities including Kids Help Phone, Children’s Aid “Read With Me Project” and the Jays Care Foundation.

Tina Powell has had an outstanding career as an author, publisher, mother and entrepreneur; however, she feels that she is “just getting started.”
