Two Advertising students get their opportunity to Shine Brighter in Sheridan College radio spots

Matt Richardson reviews his Shine Brighter radio script during a session at Grayson Matthews Studios.

Sheridan School of Business Advertising students Matt Richardson and Thar Recto recently capitalized on an opportunity to conceive, write and produce two 30-second radio commercials promoting Sheridan College’s Post-Graduate Programs under the Shine Brighter campaign banner. The radio spots were intended to convince graduate students to join a live Webchat and discover that Sheridan College has the graduate certificate programs that will help them Shine Brighter in their career choices.

Thar Recto takes a turn in the Directors chair

The Shine Brighter campaign already ran spots promoting Webchat sessions for March, and the new ads would require a different approach to the same market.

Jane Cockton, Creative Services Manager,  Sheridan Marketing/Communications Department, reached out to the Sheridan School of Business for support on the broadcast end of the Shine Brighter campaign.

Under the leadership of Sheridan School of Business professor, Chris Ward, Advertising students Richardson and Recto’s project took them from idea generation at late-night coffee shops to a Queen Street East recording studio in about six days.

Recto and Richardson get some tips from producer Jacquelin Benoit.

Jacqueline Benoit, Broadcast Producer at Young & Rubicam , delivered some studio time, a short list of non-union vocal talent, and a willingness to show two students the ropes. Benoit, a Sheridan alumnus, hooked the team up with the vocal talent, and an amazing two-woman studio team at Grayson Matthews and the results were professionally produced commercials airing on major market radio. Their finished spots dubbed An Untrained Fighter and Doctor in Real Life aired on radio stations 102.1 the Edge, and Z103.5 FM.
