Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition Quiz Bowl an intense blast with college marketing students
The dynamic Quiz Bowl, the first activity of the 2009 Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition (OCMC), was an intense blast as more than 400 students and faculty crowded Mohawk College’s McIntyre Theatre revved up to cheer their highly trained marketing student colleagues from thirteen Ontario colleges as they battled head to head for first place in the sometimes raucous and always challenging, fast-paced marketing knowledge competition.
Based on a game show concept, the 52 college marketers are pitted head to head in mixed teams of four randomly selected participants. Each team must answer a series of current marketing questions chosen from three top marketing textbooks – Contemporary Marketing, Boone, Nelson Thompson, Canadian Marketing in Action, Tuckwell, Pearson Education, and Marketing, Crane, McGraw-Hill, and from current issues of Marketing Magazine and Strategy Magazine.
Broadcaster Connie Smith, this year’s Quiz Bowl moderator, kept the action moving swiftly, posing questions from the marketing literature amid the blasting buzzers and flashing lights, as each team furiously raced to be the first to answer.
The Quiz Bowl is the only public and collaborative competitive event at OCMC and is comprised of 13 teams of four students randomly selected from all the participating colleges. The competition proceeds as each team moves through the challenging elimination rounds until there are first, second, and third place winners.
