David Nowell describes the criteria required to win the William & Margaret Lydiatt Award

David Nowell, Sheridan School of Business Professor, awarded the William & Margaret Lydiatt Award to Shauna Proctor of Conestoga College during the 2009 Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition in Hamilton, Ontario.

The William & Margaret Lydiatt Award is awarded annually to a student who inspires others, puts the spirit of the OCMC competition first by supporting others on their team, and demonstrates exceptional commitment and integrity to OCMC, and one who has overcome extraordinary adversity and inspires others.

“While the main focus at the Ontario Colleges’ Marketing Competition is traditionally on the students who win the various marketing events, they are far from the only winners. Most OCMC competitors will recall a team-mate whose dedication, encouragement and support means so much to their whole team – these are the William & Margaret Lydiatt Award recipients, ” said Nowell.

“Shauna made and published videos of OCMC 2008 for her team and took the OCMC message to high schools in her area. She provided leadership for her team and spearheaded the T-Shirt competition at her college and, she chose college after a workplace injury ended her career as a paramedic. Perhaps most remarkably, she does it all as a single mom with two teenagers,” said Barb Watt, Georgian College.

The William & Margaret Lydiatt Award was created in 2006 by David Nowell a professor at Sheridan College by way of an inheritance from his relative Margaret Lydiatt, in honour of William Lydiatt, founder of Marketing Magazine. Nowell commissioned the design of the trophy to a winning submission by Sheridan College, Crafts and Design student Nari Poluvan.
