Sheridan Advertising graduates provide real world connection to current crop of students

Sheridan School of Business Advertising students enthusiastically networked with graduates of the program working in the industry as the first annual Advertising Graduate Networking Event connected students with Industry professionals, and gave Sheridan students a perfect opportunity to make connections with recent graduates of the Sheridan School of Business Advertising program now working in the highly competitive field of advertising.

The networking event, created by program coordinator Peggy Barnwell to give current students an opportunity to see how recent program graduates are getting started in the advertising Industry, and how they move ahead, brought together current Advertising program students and recent graduates to provide some important insights for students who are soon to graduate from Sheridan.

The event provided more than 80 Sheridan Advertising program students with an opportunity to get up close and personal with 15 recent Sheridan Advertising graduates from the industry. It was an open forum event meant to provide an opportunity for students to get honest answers about the value of their education at Sheridan, how it helped the graduates with their careers, and how new Advertising graduates can get started in the advertising business.

The Advertising Grad Networking Event is hosted in partnership with the Sheridan Advertising Association and the Sheridan School of Business. The Sheridan Advertising Association is a group of Advertising students committed to bringing students together and to creating a link between the Sheridan Advertising program and the professional advertising community. The Sheridan Advertising Association has been together for three years and is comprised of a student executive lead by student Adam Ball and three Sheridan faculty advisors, Colin Robey, Maureen Garbutt, and Peggy Barnwell.

“The Advertising Association were instrumental in helping me with the organization of the event, ensuring students knew about the evening, and handling all of the registration,” said Barnwell.

The Advertising Association runs Pubs, networking events, and galas to connect students working with each other and to raise funds for two academic awards presented at the Sheridan School Of Business Academic Awards Evening. The association also raises funds for the Oakville Humane Society to help encourage student involvement with their community.

The graduates attending the panel included 2003 graduate, Erin Squires DRAFTFCB.
