School of Business Accounting students train for tax preparation clinic for Sheridan students
Sheridan Accounting students recently trained with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to enable them to help prepare Canadian Income Tax returns for Sheridan students who need help with their tax return.
The tax clinic is the brainchild of the Sheridan Accounting Students Association, led by Gus Patel, President of the association. Sheridan students who need help to file their income tax return can get assistance from the Accounting Association.
Sheridan students should sign up Februrary 23, 26, and 27th from 10:30 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. on all 3 dates at the location right beside Tim Hortons on the Oakville campus. The Accounting students have envelopes prepared so that students can just fill up the envelope with the appropriate tax information slips they need to file their tax.
The Tax Clinic event will be held in the Student Advisement Centre (B104) April 7th from 4:00-6:00 p.m., and April 8th from 5:00-7:00 p.m., where the Accounting students will review the returns and assist the students to file them with the Canadian Revenue Agency.
Patel says that they are looking for basic tax returns and won’t be doing tax returns for people who want to have their whole sole-proprietorship and all their receipts done up on a return. “Students need to have an income of less than $15,000 – because this makes for simplicity the first time around that we have tried this service,” said Patel.
